Anxious Avoider

You like to feel in control, and you tend to achieve this through being structured, organised and planned. You tend to take action to ensure that things ‘go well’ and remain on track. You are enthusiastic and inclined to be involved in many different activities.

You tend to do your utmost to ensure that life’s bumpy road is smooth and ordered. You try and work hard, adhering to timelines and delivering to the best of your ability. Tension or conflict tends to trouble your soul because it feels messy and disorganised. To overcome this, you may try to bring in more structure.

Please note that you may only exhibit some or all of these behaviour attributes listed.

Tips

Try to accept that life is a bumpy road and that no matter how hard you try, you will never be in control of everything. Although you intellectually recognise this, you may struggle to emotionally come to terms with this concept. And when you come across people whose approach is more laissez-faire or not as structured, you may feel challenged. In these circumstances, you are inclined to ‘get a grip’ on and control the situation through structure and logical problem-solving methods.

Lewis Deep Democracy has a variety of effective tools with clear, practical steps. You are likely to appreciate and find the structure very reassuring. In a sense, Lewis Deep Democracy will provide you with a feeling of being in control when dealing with the emotional, chaotic and often irrational behaviour of others. And as a result of having a heightened sense of control when moving into the tension, you will feel less anxious and more confident in facing tension as opposed to avoiding it. By facing the tension, as soon as it emerges, you will acquire a more authentic sense of control. And you will be able to make inclusive decisions that have true buy-in.
